Sentence: The owner of the Hidden Meadows Equine Rescue in Berkeley County, where more than 50 malnourished horses and two cows were seized in September, was sentenced to 10 days in jail and fined $1,000 Thursday as part of a plea agreement that saw 55 of 56 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty charges dismissed.

O'Brien, who had be in jail since her arrest on the charges Oct. 7, will not actually serve additional jail time, as she was granted credit for time already served.

A provision of the plea agreement bars O'Brien from owning or possessing any animals for a period of five years.

The court ordered that a restitution hearing in the case be scheduled for a later date. Bragg told O'Brien it could take place as early as December.... more...
