A 45-year-old Cadillac woman was arraigned on 10 counts of abuse against animals and one count of embezzlement.

Gaillynn Cornell was arraigned on the charges on Oct 18 in 84th District Court in Cadillac. She faces two counts of animal killing or torture, eight counts of animal abandonment or cruelty and one count of embezzlement, less than $200. All are misdemeanors except for the first two charges.

The charges follow incidents in Wexford County from January 2006 to Oct. 15. Wednesday, the Wexford County Sheriff's Department Animal Control Department in cooperation with the Cadillac Police Department responded to a vacant residence within the city of Cadillac for a report of animal cruelty and upon entering the residence, officers located several remains of cats and dogs.

A pretrial is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Oct. 25. Cornell was released on her own personal recognizance.

A Wexford County woman will spend time behind bars after being charged with animal cruelty and abandonment. Wednesday Gaillyn Cornell pled no contest to two of eight charges she was facing. In October, investigators say they found the bones of ten dogs and cats in an abandoned home in Cadillac. Cornell was sentenced to spend fifteen days in jail.
