Oklahoma City police arrested a man on Sept 13 in a case of alleged animal cruelty witnessed by two teenagers.
Police said Dallas Lee Fields faces two counts of animal cruelty, one a state charge and the other a city charge. The witnesses told police that Fields was giving away puppies but then stabbed one of the puppies to death.
"I hear the puppy like screaming and hollering. I looked over to my right, and at the trash can, he was holding it ... He reached in the back of his pocket and took it and slit its throat," said Barbara Biggs, who adopted a puppy from Fields.
Witnesses told police that Fields killed the puppy by slitting its throat and throwing it into a large trash container. One of the two teens who witnessed the alleged animal cruelty said he would talk about what he saw but didn't feel like identifying himself.
"It just made me so sick, and I just wanted to cry because you just don't kill a puppy. And, it started to twitch, so he stopped and just threw it over," he said.
The teenager said the puppy was put into the large trash container but lived for a short while after the attack. He and others, including Biggs, adopted three of the puppies from Fields.

Oklahoma County prosecutors file an animal cruelty charge today against a Yukon man for last month's death of a puppy.
According to court papers, witnesses told Oklahoma City police that 20-year-old Dallas Lee Fields stabbed the pit bull terrier puppy September 13th, then pulled it out of a trash can at the Sunrise Cove Apartments to slash its throat when it cried.
The incident occurred in front of several teens and children.
The affidavit alleges that Fields admitted to police that he killed the eight- to ten-week-old puppy.
Fields has said he killed the puppy because it was injured and he couldn't afford to have it euthanized.
A veterinarian determined the puppy likely died of cardiac arrest because of a skull fracture. | Source: KFOR - Oct 27, 2006 Update posted on Oct 27, 2006 - 10:56AM |
