This is the story of "Lady," a precious female Doberman-mix who left this world peacefully in her sleep on June 9, 1997.

Lady was found hobbling down Main Street in Nashua in early June and brought to the Humane Society of New England. It was obvious at first glance that Lady was in very bad shape and very likely in great pain. But despite her agony, Lady wagged her tail and tried so hard to please the staff at the shelter.

Based on clinical signs, the veterinarian presumed that Lady was suffering from osteosarcoma (bone cancer of the knee), a hyperthyroid condition, arthritis, and malnutrition; Lady was also partially deaf. Lady looked to be at least 14 or 15 years old, but the vet estimated her age at no more than 7 or 8.

Lady was the apparent victim of severe neglecta breeding dog who possibly outlived her usefulness who then released her to the streets to meet up with whatever fate would befall her.
