On January 30, 2005 a 21 pound juvenile, male intact Golden Retriever was presented to Dave Peterlin, D.V.M. at Midway Animal Hospital by a member of the community. Presenting individual stated she believed the dog had been beaten and starved. The dog was named Joshua to simplify case management.

At that time the dog was not weight bearing and had an excessively tight bandage around the right rear hock. Removal of the bandage revealed an obvious fracture. The dog had a very strong hunger drive and poor hair coat. The right rear leg continued to deteriorate and a decision to amputate the leg was made.

Additional x-rays revealed 11 other fractures throughout the body either healed or at various stages of healing, including hip dysplasia in the left hip requiring additional surgery.

Joshua was found to be negative for any bone disease or congenital problem leading to brittle bone disease. Joshua should have weighed apx. 45 pounds at the time of seizure and has since gained an appropriate weight. His right rear leg was amputated and the left hip was dysplastic so surgery had to be done on it as well, Josh also had a fracture on the left hip as well as the other fractures. See http://www.mfgrc.org/joshua1.html for more information about Joshua.

MFGRC has been accepting donations for Joshua's care. All donations will go 100% to cover Joshua's medical bills. So far his surgeries have been paid for and now MFGRC is helping with his rehabilitation. Any extra donations will go to the newly formed JOSHUA FUND of the Mid-Florida Golden Retriever Club. This is a benevolent fund to provide for special, needy golden retrievers in the future, who are brought before the board of the club for help.

If you would like to send a donation to Joshua and/or the Joshua Fund, please send to:
