An aggressive robber has stolen an earring from a Darlinghurst woman - by ripping it out of her ear - and then bashed her labrador for good measure, police say.

The 36-year-old victim was returning home from walking her two dogs in Darlinghurst about 9.30am June 11.

In a brief but vicious assault in the lift of the victim's unit block in Kings Lane, Darlinghurst, police say the 30-year-old female attacker pounced on the unsuspecting woman, pushed her and yanked the earring from her lobe.

The jewellery thief then turned on one of the victim's two dogs, a labrador, and gave it a thorough kicking.

The victim then managed to escape when the lift stopped at a level of her apartment block.

Neither she nor the battered dog suffered serious injuries.

The woman reported the crime and police from Kings Cross station found the thief walking along Palmer Street.

She was arrested, charged with aggravated robbery and cruelty to an animal, refused bail and will appear at Parramatta local court today.
