When officials raided an alleged "puppy mill" near Summerville, in LaSalle Parish recently, they found a dead Chihuahua puppy lying in an empty food bowl with three adult Chihuahua's looking on. Eighty (80) dogs were seized from the site, and charges of cruelty to animals were filed against the kennel owner, Bobby Reeves."

"Humane society members and law enforcement officials seized 80 dogs on May 16, 1998, off Highway 503 outside of Summerville. Humane Society officials said the dogs were forced to live in their own filth, eat rotten food, and drank algae-infested water. The animals were distributed to several Rapides Parish veterinarians for treatment of a number of problems, including flea infestation, weeping, open sores, eye infections, and ulcers, heartworms and other internal parasites."
