Animal control officers were summoned by city codes enforcement officers and city police officers to 2337 Fairview Rd in Morristown. Upon their arrival, they observed 5 animals in various pens located approx. 100 yards from the dwelling. Upon further observation, officers found what they believed to be either wolves or hybrid wolf dogs. Tennessee Wildlife Agency was contacted to determine if the animals were truly wolves.

Animal Control officers were informed by city police officer that the owner of the animals a Ms. McGill had been cited into city court on the 27th of February and by court order was ordered to remove the animals within 7 days. Upon further investigation officers found that none of the animals were currently vaccinated for rabies and had not been vaccinated for the last 3years.

Officers also documented the conditions that the animals were housed in finding no drinkable water or food for any of the animals; living conditions were less than standard with feces and mud throughout the pens and enclosures. Officers also determined that the pens themselves were not constructed to hold animals of this type, finding that with little effort that one or more of these animals could have escaped and become a threat to the public. An elementary school (Fairview Margarette) was in close proximity to the location.

Officers gave Ms. McGill ample time to contact her brother for removal of the animals, when he did not arrive officers took control of the animals. Officers found that the animals were very aggressive towards them and were difficult to load. Additional personal were summoned to secure the area in case one or more of these animals escaped. Upon successfully loading these animals they were transported to the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society and secured in runs that are used for quarantine animals. All runs were secured with locks and the area roped off and marked so that the public would not venture into the area.

Officers feel that these animals could pose a threat to the public and for public safety animal control officers deem these animals vicious as per city code 10-106 (2) Officers also feel that the animals should not be transported out of Hamblen County because they could not be regulated and should not become another counties problem.

Ms. McGill was charged with 5 counts of 10-109 no rabies vaccinations, 5 counts of 10-101 housing a wild animal or dangerous animal, and 5 counts 10-105 neglect failure to provide animal care. Ms. McGill was found guilty of all counts except the 5 counts of housing of wild or dangerous animals. Ms. McGill is to pay fines and court cost over $600.00 to the City of Morristown.

Provisions we made and offered to Ms. McGill to reclaim her animals as long as proper enclousures were provided and all fees were paid to the Humane Society to house these animals for the time they were taken into protective care.

Ms. McGill failed follow up with Officers and the animals became the property of the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society.
