New Castle County authorities have arrested a woman for child endangerment after finding her children living in deplorable conditions, including a home strewn with food, feces and trash and infested by several species of insects. Thirty-year-old Brandi Evans was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of her two children. Police said the children's 41-year-old father will also be charged when he turns himself in.

Police say officers were responding to a report of a possible burglary when they discovered what they described as deplorable conditions in the apartment. An investigator from the Division of Family Services took custody of the children and has turned them over to a friend of the family. The family dog was turned over to the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

A New Castle County Code Enforcement Officer immediately condemned the home because of health and fire hazards.
