Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for a Lenawee County resident charging him with 40 counts of animal cruelty. The name of the suspect is being withheld until he is arrested and arraigned, sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies were called March 14 to a home on Pentecost Highway north of Adrian, where they found four bulls and three horses knee-deep in manure in a barn. They also found 27 dogs standing in mud with no food or water available and tied to a chain. A sick dog was taken to the Lenawee County Humane Society.

The deputies returned to the property March 20 and conditions had not improved. They found skeletons and bodies of dead animals on the property.
