Patricia Brooks, owner of Sudsy Dog Grooming and Boarding, faces three counts of cruelty to animals. A search of the kennel by the Medina police and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals found several dogs and cats in cramped rooms without ventilation and one dog was not provided adequate food and water.

A search of the kennel was done as the result of citizens complaints about the kennel.

"The basic problem is (the animals) were kept inhumanely in too small of a space."

There were several dogs and cats kept in cages in a "tiny little" room with no windows or air circulation.

When we opened the door, there was a smell that would knock you over."

"Dogs need fresh air, just like humans. The ventilation was really poor throughout the whole building. There was no air movement at all inside that building."

Several dogs and cats were found in "dirty" conditions, some with urine or fecal matter on their fur.

None of the 50 animals were seized at the time, but some stool samples were collected to be tested for diseases. Test results showed about 10 dogs had been exposed to giardia lamblia a disease that can cause diarrhea in dogs.

There are no immediate plans to seize the dogs.
