A family feud takes a potentially deadly turn: a vicious stabbing. The victim: the family dog. The five-year-old white Husky, limps around the animal shelter, nursing a stab wound. The dog's name is "Butter" and police say his owner -- Joseph Felix -- is responsible for a brutal stabbing.
The incident happened in an apartment in Farragut Housing Complex where this dog owner and self-professed animal lover expressed outrage. "That's crazy. I love my dog ... ain't nobody stab my dog," the animal lover said.
Police say early on the afternoon of March 21, 2006, there was an argument inside this apartment between the suspect and his mother, over who would keep the dog. And then, police say the 20-year-old suspect inexplicably attacked the dog, stabbing the huskey just above it's hind left leg. There is no comment from the suspect or his family; they actually threatened to call police on us.
The prognosis for Butter is pretty good. The experts here say he's already been stitched up and overtime his wounds will heal. But right now, the dog is under sedation. And sadly, officials with the Center for Animal Car and Control say they see animals with injuries like this all the time. "A lot of dogs come in here that the owners commit horrible crimes against them and we don't know why," an officials said. The suspect has been arrested on animal cruelty charges. The dog is now recovering and will be up for adoption soon. Case UpdatesOn Wednesday, March 22, 2006, Butter, a beautiful Husky with ice-blue eyes, was stabbed by his owner in Brooklyn during a family argument. Following the attack, Butter was transferred to North Shore Animal League America while charges of animal cruelty were investigated against his previous owner.
During his stay at the League Butter has received medical treatment for malnutrition and for a stab wound to his right hind area. He has thrived in the safe and nurturing environment of the League - his gentle, sweet demeanor has remained untouched by the violence, the stab wound has healed, his body is back up to a healthy weight and his coat has improved. On June 14th the League received notice from the Office of the District Attorney, Kings County, that Butter's owner, Joseph Felix, failed to appear in court and therefore the League is no longer required to hold him as evidence in this animal cruelty case.
As sweet as butter, this loving Husky never has to worry about being abused again. Butter will be available for adoption at North Shore Animal League America beginning on Monday, June 19th. | Source: Yahoo News - June 15, 2006 Update posted on Jun 16, 2006 - 8:36PM |
