The Humane Society of Huron Valley is offering a reward for information on the person who is responsible for trapping, killing and beheading a pet dog.
The humane society responded to Harris and Geddes streets in Superior Township on March 16 to find a female rottweiler bound by her feet with duct tape and decapitated. The dog was lying next to five skinned coyote carcasses, according to a Humane Society of Huron Valley news release.
Officials from the society are concerned about this case, and say that this is not the first time they have encountered this type of situation. Since January, the humane society has responded to the same location on tips of wild animals lying beside the road, dead and skinned.
Though trapping season begins in October and ends March 1, humane officials say this is the first case involving a household pet, and they are devastated.
"This is a clear case of animal cruelty. It is a felony to mutilate and kill a domesticated animal," said cruelty investigator Julie Curtis. "I just hope this dog did not go through extensive pain or suffering before it was killed."
Curtis added that officials and investigators will do what they can to assure the person or persons responsible are punished to the fullest extent of the law.
The humane society is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the responsible person, according to the news release.
