A man who allegedly stabbed a police dog during his arrest will face attempted murder charges for injuring the animal and a police officer.

Barry Nordman, 26, was arrested March 9, 2006 after he fled from a hospital during a mental health evaluation, officials with the Visalia Police Department said.

An officer suffered cuts to his hand.

Bosco, the dog, was stabbed twice but kept chasing the suspect. Officers used a stun device to subdue Nordman.

Bosco was taken into emergency surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
