The Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley is once again bursting at the seams with puppies.
March 2, the facility welcomed 70 dogs and two cats from a puppy mill in Le Center, Minnesota. The owner of the mill recently died and the family couldn't care for the animals which also included horses and more cats.
The AHS staff worked with the Le Sueur County sheriff's office to remove Jack Russells, Cavalier King Charles spaniels and cocker spaniels as well as mixes of those breeds.
The dogs will now be provided any treatment needed and all will receive vaccinations, spay and neuter surgery, tooth care, nails and microchipping.
"This is not a typical puppy mill case because the dogs looked quite good," said AHS President Martha McPhee. "Certainly there were cleanliness issues, but the cats, dogs and puppies all look pretty good. About 20 were running free in the house, others were kept in cages where feces dropped through, but they were not standing in it as is often the case," added McPhee. References
