Puppy rescued from trunk of parked car Oxnard, CA (US)Incident Date: Monday, Apr 26, 1999 County: Ventura
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Alfred Yaghoubi
Alfred Yaghoubi, 31, was arrested and booked for investigation of cruelty to animals on April 25, 1999.
The incident started when a good Samaritan heard a dog yelping inside the trunk of a parked car. A woman was walking by the car on M Street about 6:45 p.m. Monday when she heard the 6-week old puppy yelping. She began to look for the owner of the car.
Quickly a crowd gathered around the car. When the police arrived, they broke into the trunk and found the puppy sitting on top of a plastic gas can without food or water.
After the car was towed, Yaghoubi emerged from a nearby home. When confronted by officers as to why he put his dog in the trunk, Yaghoubi responded, "Because I did."
The crowd was delighted when Yaghoubi was arrested and booked for investigation of cruelty to animals.
Sergeant Combs said, "The puppy being rescued, the car being towed and this guy being arrested certainly met with the crowd's approval." References- Associated Press - Apr 27, 1999
