In 2004, Wolf, a 5-year old sled dog in musher Lance Mackey�s team, died when he regurgitated food and choked on it, a common occurrence during the race. Interestingly, when race officials reported Wolf�s death, they announced that the first dog had died during the race�they knew to expect other deaths.
