Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Armondo L Benjamin
Police have arrested a man on a charge that he used a baseball bat to beat a pit bull in the head. The dog suffered several injuries, including a fractured skull, and had to be euthanized, police said.
Armondo Benjamin, 27, of Clermont was booked in the Lake County Jail on a charge of animal cruelty. He remained in jail January 17, 2006 on $2,000 bail.
A neighbor told officers that he saw Benjamin walk down Scott Street with a baseball bat shortly before noon on January 16, 2006. He later heard the dog yelping and watched Benjamin hit the pit bull six or seven times, according to an arrest report. Benjamin told police that he was angry because his neighbor had called him names and was taunting him, the report said. Police said it was unclear why he beat the dog, which belonged to another man.
