Fort Lauderdale, FL (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Apr 30, 1995
County: Broward

Disposition: USDA Citation

Person of Interest: James R. Anderson

Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

In July 1995, the U.S. Department of Agriculture charged animal dealer James Anderson, doing business as Zoological Animal Exchange, Inc., in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with violations of the Animal Welfare Act. The USDA complaint was issued May 31.

Dale F. Schwindaman, deputy administrator for regulatory enforcement and animal care in USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, said the charges against Anderson and his businesses are based on APHIS inspections.

APHIS inspectors found that from January 1994 through April 1994 Anderson and his businesses failed to:

--individually identify animals that were delivered for transportation, transported, purchased, sold, or otherwise acquired or disposed and

--mark primary animal enclosures used to transport animals with the words "Live Animal" or "Wild Animal" and with arrows or other markings indicating the correct upright position of the containers.
