Twenty one puppies at the Oldsmar Flea Market were found neglected, the owner has been charged with animal cruelty.  Cynthia King, 41, was charged with 21 counts of animal cruelty, a first degree misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail and a $1000 fine. 

King, the owner of Bark Avenue failed to provide adequate care for the puppies who were found in small separate cages inside a 1,600 square foot booth.  There was no sign of any food or water and the stench of bleach and ammonia seeped from beneath the door. Ages of the puppies ranged from 6 to 18 months, breeds were a German Sheperd, Beagle, Boxer, Bloodhound, and a mix of other breeds.  They are recuperating at the Humane Society of North Pinellas.  They all suffered an array of health problems, and all had hookworms and internal parasites.

Case Updates

She pleaded no-contest Thursday (May 15) to 21 charges of misdemeanor animal abandonment. Pinellas County Judge Sonny Im sentenced King to 21 years probation and also ordered her to serve 20 hours community service every month during her probation and undergo psychological evaluation and treatment.
