Animal control officers have recovered six pit bulls at a San Francisco home used as a day care center.

A report of a dog fight brought police to the Visitacion Valley home Friday morning. They found the six dogs, one of them apparently dead. Three children were in the home at the time. The owner of the animals is allegedly a 16-year-old boy. Police took him into custody Friday.
Police spokesman Dwayne Tully said the 16-year-old was removed from his school in South San Francisco, following the 10:10 a.m. incident at his home at 150 Ankeny Street in Visitacion Valley.
The only person present inside the house during the commotion was the boy's grandmother, according to Tully. Although the home had been set up to provide day care, Tully said it appears that no children were exposed to danger this morning.
A neighbor reported that several dogs were fighting after being awakened by the sound of the pit bulls. The person told police that two of the dogs had locked their jaws on a third. Another neighbor reportedly tried to pour water on the scuffling dogs to stop the fight.
Officers arriving at the residence found a total of six dogs, two of them bloody. No injuries to humans were reported.
Animal Care and Control officers were summoned to the scene to corral and take away the dogs. Several were reportedly destroyed afterward. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
