Jacs, a 10-month-old, brown-and-white, male pit bull who was allegedly scorched by his 14-year-old owner, died of his injuries on Oct 31, in spite of the Arizona Humane Societys courageous efforts to save him.

Phoenix police arrested the teen on Oct 30 for allegedly setting his dog on fire and badly burning the animals face, ears, abdomen, genitals and rear legs. The teen was taken into custody just before 2 PM near the intersection of 67th Avenue and Thomas Road, where the incident allegedly occurred. Police said they plan to charge the teen with felony animal abuse in connection with the horrific case.

According to Phoenix police, the incident happened on the night of Thursday, Oct 27 after the teen was reportedly playing with lighter fluid and matches. Jacs sustained painful second- and third-degree burns over an estimated 40 percent of his body. The animal suffered for four days before receiving veterinary care. The teens aunt was present but unaware of the incident until she heard cries and saw the pup rolling on the ground. The family did not seek veterinary care for the animal and surrendered ownership of the dog to the AHS after Phoenix police arrived.
