Warnings were posted in West Hollywood on Oct 27 to let the neighborhood know that several cats have been found killed and mutilated. One of those killed cats was found in the front yard of a West Hollywood, prompting neighbors to begin posting notices in the neighborhood. That grisly discovery was the latest of five incidents reported in the past month.

Its beyond devastating, one tearful neighbor said, of a cat that had been found with its stomach sliced open and its heart, spleen and lungs removed.

While the impending Halloween holiday might be one reason for the number of recent cat mutilations, neighbor Ted Frost says these incidents have happened before, at different times of the year.

The city of West Hollywood issued a news release on the night of Oct 26, acknowledging the recent cat mutilations outside the city limits. Officials urged residents to be aware of their feline companions whereabouts. To report incidents of violence, residents were urged to call (323) 848-6471.

Its suspected that a machete was used to kill all the cats. The Bureau of Humane Law Enforcement is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons killing the cats.
