Two men have been charged with animal cruelty after police say they beat a friend's pit bull to death last month in South Windsor.

Arrested were 27-year-old Edward Rowe of Manchester, Conn., and 30-year-old Peter Zaterka of South Windsor.

The dog -- a 30-pound pit bull -- had been staying with Zaterka. The dog's owner said he kept his dog there because his apartment in Manchester didn't permit it.
