A man accused of beating a dog to death was arraigned on Oct 7 on felony charges. The presiding Chatham County Recorder's Court judge ordered Micah Odell Williams, 24, of Savannah to be held in the county jail without bond.

The arrest and arraignment follows an investigation into an incidence of animal cruelty that reportedly occurred Sept. 9.

The owner of a dog in the care of Williams' wife told police Williams kicked and slammed the dog to the floor of the couple's southside residence on Arthur Circle.

The incident resulted in the dog's death, according to Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police.

Officers concluded their investigation on Sept. 29 and secured warrants for Williams' arrest on Oct. 4.

Williams was arrested shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct 6 and charged with felony animal cruelty.

The charge carries punishments of one to five years imprisonment and a possible fine up to $15,000. Police say Williams has a history of animal cruelty.
