A cat was torn apart by dogs forced to fight in a phone box. Six teenagers were spotted goading a pair of Staffordshire bull terriers in Heath Road, Clapham.
After cramming the blood-thirsty dogs into the booth, the evil mob snatched a cat and threw it in. The dead animal was found by police.
In the same week, another cat was killed in a dog fight staged by teens at a back garden in Albion Avenue, Clapham.
The owners of both cats have not come forward because they fear a revenge attack by the gang, according to RSPCA Inspector Ian Gough.
He said the sick phone box game marks a new trend in animal cruelty.
Insp Gough said: "I've been with the RSPCA 17 years and usually the cases I have dealt with have been straight forward matters of animal neglect.
"But the last seven incidents I have dealt with involved acts of extreme violence towards animals. It seems to be a new trend."
Insp Gough thinks the same gang of sick youths caused the death of the two cats in Clapham.
No descriptions of any members of the mob are available.
Insp Gough said: "We are carrying out investigations about dog fighting on housing estates around South London.
"It always seems to be teenagers who are engineering it.
"A few months ago a dog was set on a cat in Streatham, it was youngsters who did it.
"There seems to be some kind of sick fashion for them to take part in dogfights and set these bulldog-type pets on helpless cats as well.
"Many people are too frightened to come forward but all information we receive will be treated confidentially."
