Officials with Lake County Sheriff's Office said 40-year-old Codelle Augusta Borgman shot her husband four times on the morning of Aug 12 in bed, left on a weekend trip, returned home and tried to get a funeral home to pick up the body and cremate it. The funeral home alerted authorities and the woman was questioned.

Borgman was charged on Aug 16 with first degree murder and is in the Lake County Jail on no bail.

Officials identified the victim as Louis Herbert Schenot Jr. Court records indicate he married Borgman in March 2003.

Sheriff's Detective Jason Cook said Borgman allegedly shot her husband in the head and abdomen as he lay in bed on Aug 12 morning in their Sunset Drive home in Paisley.

She also shot her husband's Dalmatian in the head, he said. The dog was later taken to a veterinarian for treatment with antibiotics and is going to be OK.

Shortly afterward, she drove off to Tallahassee to visit her relatives. She came back home Monday. The couple had no children together.

Cook said Borgman then drove to a funeral home in Leesburg, asking the employee to remove the victim from their home and have the body cremated. After receiving a call from the funeral home, investigators went to the home and found the husband in bed shot to death - with a revolver beside him.

According to the arrest affidavit, an autopsy revealed the victim had been shot in the head three times and the stomach once. Detectives have not released a possible motive.

Borgman denied shooting her husband, and said that she found him dead when she arrived home on Monday, according to the arrest affidavit.

Borgman didn't make it clear to investigators why she tried to take him to the funeral home and have him cremated, instead of calling 911, and has refused to talk at times.

"She has not been cooperative with the investigation," said Sgt. Christie Mysinger, spokesman with the Sheriff's Office.

Mysinger added it is unclear why Borgman went to see her children in Tallahassee after the shooting, but her family said the visit was unexpected.

Borgman is a former nurse. Cook said investigators found blood splattered on a female nurse's uniform and pants discovered in the home.

A neighbor said he heard gunshots on Aug 12 about 8:30 a.m. and a dog yelping, and noticed Borgman's green Honda Civic in the yard. At about 9:30 a.m., the witness said, the car was gone.
