Raymond Burke, 18, and an unidentified 16-year old male both face charges of cruelty to an animal. Both are students at Maine Central Institute and are charged with the torture death of a cat in December.

Pittsfield Police of Chief Steven Emery said they both admitted to shooting the cat at least four times with a BB gun and throwing the live cat from the window of a moving vehicle.

Reports of the cat being run over at least twice by an automobile and later the use of the frozen carcass as a football cannot be confirmed.

Burke has been charged as an adult. The sentence for cruelty to animals is a fine of not less than $100 with additional sanctions at the discretion of the court.

Burke will be arraigned February 28th in Skowhegan District Court.

The 16-year old juvenile has been turned over to a juvenile intake worker.

Both of the boys confessed to their part in the case which is alleged to have happened around December 30th.

Police received an anonymous tip that a cat had been brutally tortured to death during school vacation. Complete circumstances of the crime are not specific even though both males have confessed to abusing and killing the cat.
