Frederick E. Brumage II, 39, of 80-1/2 North Eighth Street, Newark pleaded guilty to aggravated menancing and cruelty to animals. the hearing was held before Judge Larry Arnold, Licking County Municipal Court.

Brumage was fined a total of $660 and sentenced to 90 days in jail but suspended 60 days. He has also been ordered to complete anger management and mental health counseling and stop alcohol and drug use as part of his two-year probation.

Brumage said in court, "I'm sorry. I think I need help. I just lost control. A lot of things were happening. I was upset, and I just blew up. I lost my cool."

While Brumage was visiting at his neighbor's home he slammed the kitten on the floor while the 4-year old girl was present and made her help him clean up the blood. He also threatened to harm the girl if she told her mother who was in the shower during the incident.

Brumage also tried to light the kitten's fur with a lighter and burn its paws on a hot burner of a stove. The kitten's teeth fell out during the abuse.

He said the kitten jumped on him and scratched him, he then became upset. Brumage also said he was drunk at the time.

The kitten was later found in a trash container near the girl's home. The mother notified the authorities of the kitten's abuse.
