The Arizona Humane Society is investigating the burning of a 5-month old kitten that might have been deliberately set on fire.

The frightened kitten was found late Sunday morning at an apartment complex near 12th Street and Bethany Home Road. The kitten had severe burns to her left side, paws and ears.

The case is being treated as a possible animal cruelty case by the humane society and they are working with Phoenix police and residents of the apartment complex to find those responsible. If they are caught, they could face felony animal cruelty charges.

It is not known if the kitten will survive the burning.

"She's on heavy pain medications and antibiotics because her skin is sloughing off and her ears are sloughing off."

Anyone with information about this case or any other animal cruelty cases is asked to please call the Arizona Humane Society at (602) 997-7585, ext 2071.
