A jury has convicted a Georgetown man on charges of holding a dog fight between his pit bull and another animal at his home.

In January, Jerome Keith, 20, took two people with dogs to his back yard for the three animals to fight. Keith's pit bull mauled and chewed off the ear of a bull dog.

Police were called to the Rosemont Street home, but when they arrived, the two other people had already fled. The pair later were apprehended.

Case Updates

A Georgetown man has been sentenced under the state's youthful offender act for holding a dog fight between his pit bull and another animal at his home in January 2005.

Circuit Court Judge Paula Thomas on Monday handed Jerome Keith, 20, a youthful-offender sentence not to exceed five years, and recommended shock incarceration for him.

Police said in January Keith took two people with dogs to his backyard for their three animals to fight. Keith's pit bull mauled and chewed off the ear of a bull dog.

Keith was arrested after someone called police to the Rosemont Street home. When officers arrived, the two other people had left. They were caught later.
