Alberto Cooper, 20, was arrested early Jan 19 on charges that he killed a cat belonging to the Vitkovich family of Pembroke Pines.

Cooper allegedly grabbed the the cat and repeatedly slammed it on the pavement in front of the Vitkovich home. The cat died because of massive head trauma.

The Vitkovich family refused to give their side of the story. Cooper's father said, "This is completely bogus. He wouldn't hurt an animal. He wouldn't do that."

Cooper's friend, Aaron Link of Pembroke Pines, said they stopped at the Vitkovich residence around 12:30 a.m. to visit Cory Vitkovich. Cory's father answered the door and said she wasn't home.

Link said Cooper left the house and went to his home. A few minutes later, two Pembroke Pines police cars pulled up and arrested Cooper. Link said he thinks his friend got a raw deal.

Link said later that morning he drove past the Vitkovich residence and noticed a cat lying on the edge of the lawn with a pool of blood congealing around its head.

The police ask anyone with information to please call 954-431-2200 or the Broward Tips Hotline at 493-TIPS (8477).
