Two cats shot and killed with pellet gun
Dana Point, CA (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Jul 31, 2000
County: Orange

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A Dana Point mobile home park has had two cats killed in nine days, it has left residents frightened and suspicious. Both of the cats died as the result of fatal pellet wounds, perhaps from a pellet rifle.

There is at least one other cat with an injury to its eye that is also thought to be a victim of a pellet gun.

The first cat shot was Viper. Viper was just about one year old. When he didn't show up for breakfast the owner, Robin Zeisler, 48, thought something was wrong. When Viper finally showed up three days later, he had a wound on the right hip.

Zeisler took the cat to a veterinarian and x-rays showed a pellet had entered the cat's body, perforated its intestines and nearly exited on the other side. The veterinarian recommended the cat be put to sleep. Zeisler followed the veterinarian's recommendation to have Viper put to sleep.

Eight days later a second cat was found dead in a nearby trash bin with a wound thru its torso. The cat belonged to a family that lived across the street from the Zeisler home.

The authorities have no suspects or motives for the cat killings but some residents have their suspicions.

A few people in the mobile home park seem to think it's a neighbor.
