SPCA of Texas Animal Cruelty Investigators received a report of dogs being abused in Jacksboro County on Liveoak Lane. Upon approaching the property, investigator Tory Ball, with assistance from Jacksboro County Deputy Wigginton, witnessed approximately 20 dogs running loose on the outside of the house and could hear many more inside. All of the dogs appeared to have extensive skin problems and many were underweight. Ball said that many of the dogs were infested with ticks and fleas and appeared to be dehydrated.

There was no sign of food for the animals and the only water found was stagnant; one water container even contained a dead rat floating in it. Ball reports that the outside of the hosue also contained several spots of over-grown grass, burn piles and a recently deceased dog. One dog was found undernourished in a wire enclosed pen that had no food or water.

Observing through a crack in the front door, Ball says she could see crates stacked by the door. Investigating further through a window, Ball observed that the floor inside was covered in feces and trash.

Ball then called the SPCA of Texas VP of Operations/Rescue & Investigations, Dave Garcia, and informed him of her findings and then began the process of getting a warrant issued for the seizure of the dogs. On April 23, 2005, Garcia, Ball and Deputy Warrington, with warrant in hand, returned to Liveoak Lane to serve the warrant. Entering the house, it was immediately obvious that things were worse than they thought. Ball says the house was solid feces and trash.

By late morning, employees of the SPCA of Texas began taking the animals into custody. On the first day, the rescue resulted in 31 dogs being saved. On April 27, 2005, Ball returned to the residence and picked up six more dogs and transported them to the SPCA of Texas.

The health conditions of all these dogs are all very serious and are being closely monitored.
