Rod and Barbara Guillermo face new charges of animal cruelty. Medina County Society for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty (SPCA) took 75 sickly dogs from the Harrisville Township couple. The dogs were covered with fleas and sores and soaked with their own urine. The SPCA had a court order to remove other dogs from them, but when they arrived, the dogs had disappeared. Now they may be facing charges of stealing the dogs as the court had awarded them to the SPCA.

The dogs have mysteriously reappeared. Prior to these charges, the coupled had rented a house in Chatam Township and neighbors complained of all the dogs in the house. Investigators found a total of 57 dogs housed in small cat crates in the basement. All the dogs were soaked in their own urine and standing in their own feces. This brought a charge of 11 counts of cruelty to animals. They were convicted on these charges and fined $3000, put on probation and had to surrender all the dogs, except 12.

Recent charges include: animal cruelty and felony for stealing.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
