An Indiana man cleaning up around a little league baseball field made a cruel discovery when he found a badly beaten dog thrown away and left to die in a dumpster. Simon the pit bull has numerous stitches on top of his head. The surgical threads closed a once gaping wound that exposed the one-and-a-half year old dog's skull.

Dr. Larry Reed used staples to close bite marks and cuts that cover Simon's white and tan coat from head to toe.

Simon was taken to the Westchester Animal Clinic for treatment. On Monday morning, a veterinarian performed surgery, closing up the worst wound where his skull was visible.

Police believe Simon might have been used as bait in a dogfight and then tossed in the dumpster when he was no longer of any use.

Virtually all of Simon's teeth are shattered. His right eye is badly injured. The blows to his head were so tremendous, he may even go deaf. Veterinary assistant Jane Hullsiek is hoping to find a home for the dog who clearly just wants someone to love him and not hurt him..

Anyone with information about Simon, please contact the Portage Police Department.
