Charles Richardson, 38, charged with animal cruelty charges for throwing a dog against a door at the apartment complex in an attempt to get the dog to stop barking. The apartment complex is located at 3001 East 19th Avenue.

The police officers arrived at Colbert Square Apartments in Sheffield and were met by a small boy crying as he carried his dog.

"He killed my dog," the boy said. "He killed my dog."

The dog was still alive but was barely breathing. Colbert County Animal Control officials were not able to repair the dog's broken back so the dog was put to sleep.

Richardson told the police officers because of the dog's constant barking he went outside, grabbed the pet and threw it against the front door of the apartment.

It was not clear how many times the dog was thrown against the door.
