A Duncan Avenue man has been charged in a case in which authorities said his dog was dragged behind his vehicle, then stabbed. Police said William Cameron Jr., 62, of 1201 Duncan Ave., Apt. 8, drove from his residence to 200 E. MLK Boulevard dragging his dog behind his car.

Cameron said he did not know that the dog had jumped through the rear window.

Police said the dog was tied to the inside of the station wagon and was not given time to get back inside.

Witnesses said Cameron went inside a bar complaining about his dog being hurt, then went back outside, took a knife, and "stabbed the dog to put it out of its misery."

Cameron is charged with animal cruelty.

He is due to appear in General Sessions Court on Feb. 10 at 1:30 p.m.

Cameron is also facing a murder charge in Criminal Court.
