Louisiana State Police seized 30 pit-bulls on Dec 27 and arrested the man accused of raising the dogs to fight. Kevin Valentine, 41, 11395 Granberry St., was booked into Parish Prison on counts of dog fighting and simple cruelty to animals. Bond was set at $5,000.

Investigators were tipped by the East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Control Center on Dec. 21 that a large number of pit bulls could be found at Valentine's house and were apparently being trained to fight, a State Police news release said.

Two treadmills were found in a storage shed outfitted with dog leashes, the news release said.

Investigators also found paraphernalia used to train fighting dogs, such as ropes, weights and large chains for strength training, the news release said.

The animals were taken to the Animal Control Center.
