Two 15-year old girls told a Citrus County Sheriff's deputy they killed the animal. They were angry because the dog ran loose in the park.

Tippy, a 3-year old Chihuahua-cocker spaniel mix was found by Animal Control Division in a two-foot grave in a drainage ditch near a mobile home park.

Gail Tierney, sheriff's spokeswoman, said the teens indicated that the animal was buried alive.

No charges have been filed, the case is still under investigation. The body was sent to a veterinarian for examination. Tippy had been buried for two days so it might not be possible to determine whether she was buried alive.

Once the necropsy report is finished, if police believe there might be a case, the information will be turned over to the state attorney's office to decide whether to bring charges.

The dog's owner, Doug Wood, said Tippy had been missing all day and that evening he called the sheriff's office after hearing two girls had been bragging about burying a dog alive.
