Brandon Jackson, of unincorporated Broward near Fort Lauderdale, faces up to five years in jail or a $10,000 fine if convicted of cruelty to animals.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the 3800 block of Northwest Seventh Court on Friday afternoon. They found the small white dog had been singed.

Jackson told deputies he lit a match and threw it at the dog beause he was mad at his 13-year old friend. He said he didn't mean for the dog to be burned.
