Edward Alessandrini was devastated when he found the 14-pound terrior, Marcie, hanging in her cage by her leash. He said someone sneaked into her backyard kennel and hanged her by the neck while he was out of town.

The chain-link kennel, which stands 6-feet tall, 4-feet deep and 4-feet wide, is placed only feet from the house. Inside, Marcie had a water bowl, food bowl and small doghouse.

Volusia County Sheriff's Office investigators said they have no leads or suspects.

Neighbors said they are shocked by the violence and worried about their neighborhood.
