Gregory G. Butler, 20, was charged with stuffing the severed head of a dog in a family's mailbox. He was charged in Chardon Municipal Court with a misdeameanor count of criminal mischief that accused him of sticking the dog's head into Fred and Barbara Karaba's mailbox on Princeton Road.

Sheriff's spokesman, John Hiscox, said Butler told deupties he did it as a prank. He is scheduled to appear in court April 9.

Two 17-year old boys and a 17-year old girl also will be charged with delinquency in Geauga County Juvenile Court in connection with the incident.

Deputies said Butler and the teens found a dead dog on the side of the road, cut its head off and put it in the mailbox. Police have not identified the owner of the dog.

It is unclear why Butler and the teens commited the act.
