Michael Frank Hernandez, 47, was sentenced to a year in jail for killing a Rottweiler with a hammer and forcing more than two dozen other animals to live in his feces-strewn house. Several died.

The jail term came on top of a one-year prison sentence for threatening to kill the neighbor who saw him beating the Rottweiler. As part of the sentence he is prohibited for three years from owning a pet or living in a house with an animal in it. Pima County Animal Control can inspect his home any time during his probation.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges.
