Police stated a man murdered his wife on their 11th wedding anniversary last June, and on August 26, 2004 he was charged.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office detectives charged Jeffrey Thomas Lamb, 31, with first-degree murder, cruelty to animals and filing a false insurance claim in the June 15 death of his estranged wife, Cathy Lamb.

Detectives charged Lamb while he was at the Palm Beach County Jail for violating probation for unrelated charges after sheriff's reports said he choked, punched and tried to handcuff a 24-year-old woman July 12 at a house they shared in Jupiter.

Detectives said that on June 15, the estranged couple arranged to go to the movies. Instead, they said, Jeffrey Lamb walked into Cathy's small duplex home at 507 Silver Beach Road, in Lake Park, and knocked her to the floor, when they said he then beat her repeatedly with a tire iron.

One of Cathy's three dogs also suffered at least four cuts to the head caused by the same weapon, detectives said.

Lamb's motive was allegedly to collect a $29,000 insurance policy from the Walgreen's' corporate office where Cathy worked. Investigators said they found blood spatter on Lamb's jeans.
