Linda Meredith drove from her home in Loxahatchee, FL with a five-month old pig in the trunk of her Cadillac shortly after learning that a tiger belonging to a former "Tarzan" actor had escaped from a nearby sanctuary. She hoped the pig's squeals would bait the big cat, which was eventually shot and killed by wildlife officials on July 13.

Local animal care official Diane Sauve said she was shocked the pig had been transported in the trunk of a car.

"I was appalled...carrying an animal in a trunk in 90-degree heat, where it's probably 140 degrees inside, is not acceptable," Ms. Suave said.

Ms Meredith, who said that the trunk was air conditioned and that she was going to eat the pig anyhow, was outraged by the official's reaction.

"I can't believe they have the gall," she told the local newspaper, "I was just trying to help the tiger find his way back home."

The state declined to pursue charges.
