Arvada police want to know who set fire to a portable kennel with two dogs inside and left it behind a movie theater.

A worker at the Colorado Cinemas Olde Town 14 at 5550 Wadsworth Blvd. discovered the burning kennel behind the building while taking out the trash Monday night. He heard yelping, and ran back inside the theater for a fire extinguisher.

The worker put out the fire, but it was too late for one of the dogs. Only a black lab puppy survived.

The puppy was taken to an animal hospital, where it was being treated for burns.

Police say whoever is responsible for the crime could face animal cruelty charges. Anyone who knows anything about the incident or saw anything suspicious around February 16, 2004 behind the theater is asked to contact the Arvada Police Department.
