A Covert man found with paraphernalia for dog fights has been sentenced to jail. Van Buren County Circuit Judge William Buhl sentenced David Charles Parsons, 36, to 60 days in jail, five years probation, $1,984 restitution and $495 costs for possession of animal-fighting equipment.

Authorities said they found equipment to condition dogs, including a treadmill, and to train them to fight. They found pictures of dog fights, a fight report and a pen they believe was used as a fighting ring, according to the police report. They seized 27 dogs, 26 of them pit bulls.

Parsons pleaded no contest to the charge on Feb. 6 and was credited with three days already served.
