Four teenagers were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of plowing into a flock of ducks and geese in Ahwatukee Foothills, leaving a gruesome 50-yard aftermath of blood and feathers.

Reggie Richardson, 17; Raymond Blakeley, 17; Ryan Johnson, 16; and Craig Knapper, 17, were arrested at 11 a.m. at Mountain Pointe High School.

Someone apparently put a large amount of bread and tortillas in the middle of the Phoenix street, luring the birds from a nearby golf course lake into the road. Moments later, a small car sped away from the scene.

Feathers and other physical evidence were found on a 1997 green Chevrolet Camaro driven by Richardson.

The teens were referred to the Maricopa County Juvenile Court system with recommended charges of 10 felony counts each of cruelty to animals. They could get probation to two years in prison for each count.

Case Updates

Reggie Richardson admitted he was behind the wheel of the 1997 Chevrolet Camaro that ran over the birds on March 5 near Lakeside Boulevard and Suki Court.

Richardson is scheduled to be sentenced July 12 on one count of intentional cruelty to animals, said Damian Aros, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Juvenile Court.

In the juvenile court system, the possible range of sentences is broad. It could include anything from probation or incarceration up to a defendants 18th birthday, Aros said.

Raymond Blakeley, 17, was sentenced to probation and community service earlier this month after admitting he was one of Richardsons passengers.
