A Cincinnati man is out of jail after allegedly killing three cats in front of a crowd of people that included several children. Douglas Robinson, 56, is charged with several counts of animal cruelty.
Robinson is the landlord at the apartment building on West Eighth Street in Price Hill, a Cincinnati suburb, at which the cats were allegedly stabbed and bludgeoned to death Saturday afternoon.
According to police and witnesses, Robinson became angry after learning that some tenants he had evicted earlier in the day left behind what he called "cat trash."
"He had this gray cat by its neck," witness Rashell Courtney said. "He kept walking back and forth with it, and then he cracked its head on that Dumpster. It made me feel sick. I had to walk away from the window."
Neighbors who watch Robinson's tirade said his hands were covered in blood.
As Robinson was led away in handcuffs, he said "yes" when WLWT-TV asked him if he regretted the incident. When asked why he allegedly killed the animals, Robinson answered, "No comment."
An SCPA worker had to climb inside a Dumpster to retrieve at least one lifeless cat as neighbors -- some with tears in their eyes -- looked on.
"He threw one of them in the Dumpster, threw one against the Dumpster, and threw it against the wall, and slammed one on the door," witness Leroy White said.
Neighbor Lisa Billman said she "couldn't believe someone would do something like that."
"He went about it all the wrong way," Billman said. "He should have called the SPCA or opened the door and let them out."
Robinson posted $7,500 bond Sunday and was released from the Hamilton County Justice Center. He is scheduled to appear in court to be arraigned Monday. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
